Sri Lanka holding out hope for Hasaranga's World Cup participation

Sri Lanka star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is still battling a hamstring injury and has been ruled out of the Asia Cup.

Sri Lanka are exploring all avenues to allow Hasaranga to feature in at least some of their World Cup matches.

If Hasaranga misses the entire World Cup, Sri Lanka's bowling stocks will be severely depleted.

– Hasaranga was the leading wicket-taker at the two most recent editions of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and also topped the wicket charts during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe earlier in the year.

Sri Lanka have until September 28 to name their final World Cup squad.

Sri Lanka medical panel head Arjuna de Silva said that Hasaranga is consulting foreign doctors to see whether he needs surgery or not.

If Hasaranga does need surgery, he will be out for at least three months.

De Silva said that Sri Lanka are looking at other options to see how best they can get Hasaranga's services for at least important games.

Sri Lanka are one of just two teams yet to name their World Cup squad.
